Who We Are
Our Team & Leadership
Rev. Todd Chancey has been married to his wife Liz for over 37 years. They have two adult daughters, two sons-in-laws and three granddaughters. Todd enjoyed a 15-year career in Church Business Administration before answering a call to pastoral ministry. He is an ordained elder in full connection in the Holston Annual Conference. Todd received his BS Degree in Organizational Management at Covenant College, and attended the Course of Study and Advanced Course of Study at Candler School of Theology at Emory University where he received his Masters of Divinity equivalent. He has co-authored two books, the most recent with his wife Liz, titled God in the Midst of Thorns: A Journey of Faith, Hope, Strength and Justice. This latest work will be in publication by late Summer of 2019. It is based on a true story and authored under the pen names Christopher and Hilda Talley. Todd has spent a large part of his career participating and leading mission work and mission teams in local, regional, and international locations. He has worked full time in Christian ministry for the past 31 years. Most recently he served Kingston UMC for the past seven years, and Apison UMC for the previous eight years. Todd and Liz believe that all ministry is relational and the more you share life together with the church family the more you grow in discipleship. Todd enjoys preaching, teaching, and administrating the needs of the local church. He has served in local, district, and conference leadership for many years. Todd and Liz are both very excited about the opportunities of serving the church family at Alcoa First United Methodist Church.
Rev. Joe Green is a native of Appalachia, Virginia and for 46 years served in the Holston Conference of the United Methodist Church. This included appointments in Georgia, Virginia and Tennessee, and as a District Superintendent. In 2018 Joe retired from full-time ministry after serving as Senior Pastor for First Broad Street UMC in Kingsport, Tennessee.
Joe was saved and then answered God’s call into pastoral ministry as a senior History major at King College in Bristol, Tennessee. In 1974 he earned his Master of Divinity at Asbury Theological Seminary in Wilmore, Kentucky.
Joe spent 17 years of his ministry here at First UMC, Alcoa. He is married to Beth, who is the Director of Music and Worship Coordinator at this church. They are the parents of a daughter, Hannah, who lives in Knoxville with her husband, James Slaughter, and their daughters Ophelia, and Azalea.
Director of Children’s & Youth Ministries, & Special Events Coordinator
My name is Brooke Strayn and I am blessed with the privilege of serving as the Director of Children’s Ministry at Alcoa First United Methodist Church. My husband, 2 daughters and I are thankful to be apart of this church family and for these godly people who have adopted us and love us.
God is writing the vision for the Children’s Ministry and I am following His leading. We at First United Methodist Church are taking a focused approach to God’s Word. The children are taught bible based lessons each week with application and reinforcements that can relate to their life here and now. It is our job and our calling as a church to make sure we equip both the children and their parents with the necessary resources and support to nurture young hearts and minds so they grow to love their Savior. Proverbs 22:6 “Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it.”
Our children’s program goal is to equip every child with the knowledge and desire to reflect Christ through their lives. I feel that it is important for every child, no matter their age, to recognize that God wants to use them for His purpose and glory each and every day; at church, at home, at school, when they are with others and when they are alone. 1 Timothy 4:12 “Let no one despise your youth, but be an example to the believers in word, in conduct, in love, in spirit, in faith, in purity.”
Beth Green is a singer, songwriter, seamstress, artist, and comedian. Most important, she is a follower of Jesus. Since their marriage in 1974, Beth has worked with her husband, a United Methodist minister in the Holston Conference. After 47 years, Joe retired from full-time ministry in 2018, to move closer to their daughter, Hannah, who lives in Knoxville with her husband and two daughters. Both Joe and Beth are still active in ministry during their retirement. He is serving part-time as pastor at Campground UMC in Townsend, and she is serving as Director of Music Ministries at Alcoa First UMC (where he pastored 17 years). The Greens reside in Maryville.
In 1979, Beth began working in the broadcasting field and spent the majority of her career as a morning radio personality at several stations in Chattanooga and Knoxville. Along with being a public speaker, she’s been a worship leader for various conferences, camps and retreats. Beth enjoys sharing her humor, since her favorite pastime is making people laugh.
